About AL DJAZAIRI

The missions of Al Djazairi are:

– producing, distributing, and exhibiting the biopic historical feature film on Emir Abdelkader
– producing all related cinematic and/or audiovisual works
– distributing the film and its derivatives in both national and international markets, across all platforms and exhibition formats
– exhibiting the film and its derivatives
– managing the intellectual property and financial revenues of the film and its derivatives
– ensuring the marketing, communication, and promotion of the project worldwide.

“El-Djazairi Establishment for Production, Distribution, and Exhibition of the film about Emir Abdelkader”, based in Algiers, was founded under a Presidential Decree.
It is a public establishment of an industrial and commercial nature (EPIC), with legal personality and full financial autonomy.

THE TEAM

Salim AGGAR · Managing Director

Producer, director, journalist, film critic, and media and communication professional, Salim AGGAR has a rich career in cinema, communication, and media.

A graduate in French Literature, he spent more than 35 years of his career in the Algerian written press before turning to audiovisual media and filmmaking.

He is recognized beyond Algeria as one of leading specialists in cinema and television. Salim Aggar is above all a producer and director of high-quality documentaries that have been selected in numerous international festivals.

He began his directing career in 2007 with Ça tourne à Alger (Filming in Algiers), a film that highlights the difficulties faced by Algerian filmmakers during the black decade. He went on in 2010 to direct Paroles d’un prisonnier français de l’ALN, based on the testimony of a French prisoner from the Algerian War, then Chahine, l’Algérie et le cinéma in 2017, about one of the most important Arab filmmakers and his relationship with Algeria.

His fourth documentary, L’Histoire du film La Bataille d’Alger, released in 2018, brought together after 50 years the main Algerian actors and crew involved in Gillo Pontecorvo’s film.

From 2018 to 2021, Salim AGGAR headed the Algerian Cinematheque, one of the most important institutions in Africa and the Arab world. During his tenure, he distinguished himself by taking charge of the archives and modernizing the repertory cinema.

In 2021, he returned to Media and launched the first international news channel in the Maghreb: AL24News, which became the most important and influential Arab media outlet in the Maghreb and the Mediterranean.

In 2023, he was selected among 112 authors worldwide to contribute to an international collective book funded by The International Federation of Film Archives: Histoires d’appareils: la technologie du cinéma à travers les années et les continents (Stories of Machines: Cinema Technology Across the Years and Continents)
He is also the author of two reference works on international cinema: Al-Rissala, l’histoire d’un film sur l’Islam, an analysis of the greatest film ever made about Islam by Mustapha Akkad, and Le Cinéma algérien à travers l’affiche, an in-depth research of Algerian film posters.

In 2024, Salim Aggar joined the production establishment Al Djazairi, which is responsible for developing and producing a large-scale film about Emir Abdelkader. In 2025, he was designated as General Director of the establishment.
