Second Consultative Meeting in Setif Between the Committee and Scholars from Eastern Algerian Universities: Recommendations to Frame the Emir Abdelkader Film as a National Project.

The Advisory and Expert Committee, responsible for the preliminary preparations for selecting the film script on Emir Abdelkader, held its second consultative meeting with researchers and professors from eastern Algerian universities. The meeting took place on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the Cultural Center of Setif Houari Boumediene, and was organized by the public establishment Al Djazairi.

The meeting led to several key recommendations, notably reaffirming the importance of grounding the film’s script in an authentically Algerian perspective, presenting the project as a unifying national initiative. Participants emphasized the need not only to highlight Emir Abdelkader’s military achievements but also to shed light on his cultural, spiritual, and diplomatic contributions-while honoring Algeria’s historical and religious symbols and embracing its geographical diversity. Above all, the project aims to deliver a message of national unity, embodying the ongoing spirit of the revolution within the vision of a modern Algerian state.

This meeting was part of an ongoing series of regional consultations, following the first meeting with researchers from western universities in Oran on April 24, 2025. A third meeting with researchers from universities in the central region is expected soon, aiming to build a comprehensive in-depth Algerian perspective on Emir Abdelkader’s journey to enrich the Committee’s efforts to shape the film’s historical narrative.
